Super Sprouts

Super sustainable sprouts.
The newest health-food-fad?
Or the solution to global warming?

On Friday, November 3, Grow Yer Own Dang Food Sproutstaurant opens in Amsterdam, presenting a menu of 31 different sprouted vegetables alongside traditional Dutch potato mash (stamppot). Conceived by artist Debra Solomon, the project offers home-grown solutions to the negative effects of transporting food by car and airplane. A majority of urban transportation is dedicated to moving and obtaining food. By growing our own food, Solomon proposes that we contribute to a more sustainable and ethical food supply.
Another stepping stone for the holistic revolution, Solomon affirms, “Sprouting, it’s not just for hippies anymore.”
Will we see sprout-kitchen kits in the aisles of Wal-Mart soon? If the folks in Arkansas get wind of it who knows what bedazzled alfalfa creation you’ll get for Christmas.

Grow Yer Own Dang Food Sproutstaurant is located in the Mediamatic Night Garden,
an exhibition linking next nature, new technology and contemporary art.
Participating artists: Christa Sommerer & Laurent Mignonneau, Felix Hess, Mateuz Herczka,
Ralf Schreiber & Christian Faubel, Debra Solomon (www.culiblog.org), Michael Samyn & Auriea
Harvey and Petra Blaisse.

Night Garden opens Friday November 3rd at 20:00h.

Circus :: Paris, France

What happens when a bar goes to circus?
Colorful, kooky mayhem.
Especially when you are the Lou Pascalou, a Parisian establishment since 1776 when it was home to musicians and intellectuals.
Today, the diversity of the neighborhood lends a gritty, warm taste to the eclectic gatherings.
The first annual Cirque du Lou Pascalou fundraiser included music, dance, homemade goodies, and, of course, the necessary beverages to wash it all down with.
See you next year!

Executive Chef Will Goldfarb

"If you define what Chef Goldfarb is doing as art, then it makes perfect sense to me."
posted on egullet.

Once the bad-boy of New York pastry, Chef Will Goldfarb is making strides with his new dessert bar in Nolita. Using techy gadgets like the anti-griddle, Goldfarb creates pastry paradoxes. Frozen basil peppermint olive oil? Carbonated sorbet?
Gothamist loved it, and frankly you can't get enough of dehydrated coconut powder.
If only it came with exploding chocolate beans...
